These high quality hemp yarns can be used for knitting, macrame, crochet or weaving (we think they are too nice as an all-purpose or utility twine!). The tan yarn is hemp in its natural color without bleaches or dyes. The white color is achieved through bleaching with hydrogen peroxide. Both colors come in a 3, 6, and 12-ply. The 3-ply is a thin yarn that approximates fingering weight yarn. The thicker 6 and 12-ply yarns approximate sport and worsted weight, respectively. Each cone weighs ~1 pound. Yardage varies by weight as follows: 3-ply cones ~1800 yards; 6-ply cones ~910 yards; 12-ply cones ~ 455 yards. Made in Romania.

Note to composters: Hemp is strong and relatively resistant to microbial growth, but since it is a plant fiber it will compost. The rate of degradation would, of course, depend on the form of any finished product, the weight (ply) of the yarn and the conditions (temperature, microbial activity) of your compost pile.
