The cotton used to make this yarn is certified organic, fair trade, vegan, and color grown. Cotton grows naturally in shades of greens and browns, so no dyes are needed to achieve this beautiful color. Over a decade of ethnographic, botanical and archaeological research by the Native Cotton Project of Peru has led to the identification of pre-Columbian farming techniques for sustained cotton harvesting and environmental resource management, resulting in Pakucho yarns. Each hank is 50 grams or 1 3/4 oz and 81 meters or 88 yards. Worsted weight worked up on the following: US #7needles yield 5 stitches per inch; US #8 needles yield 4.5 stitches per inch; or US #9 needles yields 4 stitches per inch. Hand or machine wash warm, rinse cool. Dry flat or gently tumble to almost dry and finish flat. Allow 10-15% shrinkage in length for tumble-drying. Unlike cotton dyed with synthetics which fade over time, color grown cotton colors intensify with washing. Dark Green is an earthy green with olive undertones. The color you see on your monitor may differ from the true color. For yarn swatches, please send a self-addressed stamped envelope with the requested yarn name and color(s) written on the back of the envelope to: Compostable Goods, PO Box 668, Williston, VT 05495.
