These stylish pressed leaf rectangular trays can be used either as a small tray (i.e., for bread or sweets) or as a plate (sushi anyone?). They are made from fallen palm leaves from plantations that go through a series of processes including steam, heat, pressure, and UV sterilization resulting in a durable tray. There are no adhesives, waxes, dyes, or any other chemical inputs. No trees are cut down to obtain the leaves. Each tray is unique just as each leaf is unique. In fact, there are some really beautiful natural markings (similar to wood grain) that might be hard to part with. These trays are more durable than any disposable plastic, Styrofoam (eek!), or paper bowls and are microwave (up to 2 minutes), oven (up to 350° for 45 minutes), freezer, and refrigerator safe. They can be washed (by hand) and used multiple times, particularly if used for dry ingredients, although substances like tomato sauce and beets will stain the plate somewhat. Pressed leaf lunch/dinner plates, hors d'oeuvres/dessert plates and bowls are also available. These trays are made in India, where the leaves are found. Verterra states that their employees receive a fair wage and are provided with access to healthcare. Verterra Dinnerware passes the most stringent tests for health, safety, and compostability. There are four trays measuring 7 by 8.5 inches per pack.
Materials: Palm leaves
Features:
- Uniquely beautiful dinnerware add elegance to your table or event
- Certified compostable by Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI)
- Completely natural - no glues, finishes, waxes, or bleaches
Note to composters: When you are done with the tray, you can toss it in your home compost where it should break down in about two months (faster with hot composting and perhaps slower with cool composting in the middle of winter). As with any material, ripping the tray into pieces will speed biodegradation, but this is not necessary.
