Agave Scrubber or Exfoliator
[2900]
$6.25

This scrubby can be used in the kitchen as a pot and pan scrubber or in the bath as an exfoliator. The entire scrubby, inclusive of stuffing, is agave, a fiber found in the leaves of some species of the Agave genus. The scrubby is made from agave grown in Mexico, which is then crocheted by members of a 115 family cooperative. The agave is hand-harvested, washed with water, and sun dried. No chemical are used in processing. Agave, a native plant to Mexico, grows without the addition of fertilizers or pesticides. The scrubby is generously sized, measuring 5 inches in diameter, and has a strap on one size for an easy grip. After use, rinse, ring out, and hang by the strap to dry. Made in Mexico.

Materials: Agave fiber

Features:

  • Fiber from a native plant requiring minimal inputs
  • Program proceeds benefit social programs, such as in-school lunches
  • Use in kitchen or bath

Note to composters: The product label states biodegradability in 3-5 years. This reportedly refers to degradation in a landfill setting. Of course, we don't think this scrubby belongs in a landfill so we plan to estimate biodegradability time in a compost. We'll add one of these to an active (manure based) home compost pile in the spring (when we thaw out) with updates in the summer/fall of 2010.
