We chose Badger Sunscreen because it received the highest safety ratings from the Environmental Working Group (a zero is the best score you can get). This sunscreen uses zinc oxide as a physical barrier to protect from the sun's rays rather than synthetic chemicals found in conventional sunscreens. Zinc oxide offers broad-spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays, while natural oils and waxes soothe and moisturize your skin. Each tube contains 2.9 oz. Choose SPF 15 or SPF 30 (Lightly Scented or Unscented). Made in New Hampshire.
Ingredients: Micronized Zinc Oxide 20.5% (active sunscreen ingredient), *Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Beeswax, *Jojoba Oil, *Cocoa Butter, *Shea Butter, *Lavender Essential Oil [Lightly Scented Only], and CO2 Extracts of *Rosemary and *Seabuckthorn Berry. (*=certified organic)
Features:
- Water Resistant (retains original SPF 40 minutes after exposure to vigorous warm water and won’t run into your eyes when you sweat!)
- Since it is a physical barrier it works as soon as you put it on
- Safe for all ages (although Badger recommends checking with a doctor for children under 6 months of age, the active ingredient (zinc oxide) is approved by the FDA for use in diaper creams)
- Coral-reef and marine safe
Note to composters: Please don’t compost your sunscreen; rather wear it while you build your pile. All ingredients with the exception of zinc oxide are natural oils or waxes, and as such are biodegradable. Zinc oxide is not biodegradable since it is a mineral (minerals are not biodegradable). The tube is #2 plastic made from 50% post-consumer recycled material.
